celiac contamination from kissing

by joan black

I have just read that you can be contaminated by giving a kiss to a non-celiac. Has anyone else heard of that?

Watch out if he's bearded too
by: Jenny

My dear husband (actually Carol's brother!) is extremely reluctant to shave. Some say he's lazy, however I know that the psoriasis he suffers with can at times erupt on his face. That is an aside, he does drink Gluten Beer and is (unless I cook) on a Gluten inclusive diet.

Yes kissing can be very difficult, we do laugh and joke about it, but I have been caught out, and it is NO fun then.

My resolve, I trim his beard (sometimes when he's asleep!) and keep it short, and there is no kissing until he's washed!

Contamination from Kissing
by: Janet

Yes I have heard of this and actually tell newly diagnosed patients to remember this as well. I run a celiac disease support group through CSA and when I first went to training/conferences this was pointed out. Reason being that if a non-celiac just ate wheat and still had particles in their mouth and you kiss them-you are getting contaminated! Food for thought, eh?
