Folgers Classic Roast ground coffee

Folgers Classic Roast ground coffee - exp. date 11/27/11

I purchased this a few weeks ago believing it was gluten free. I had an almost immediate reaction the first cup but figured it was something else. I tried a cup the second day and the reaction was worse.

I contacted the company, which is Smuckers, and corresponded with them. I spoke with Anna who told me that they don't add gluten but it could be introduced during the processing.

I thought I would let others know so they can avoid a reaction. The company was very good to work with and apologized for any problems. They are also issuing a refund. I would rather have avoided the whole problem to begin with though, thus I felt it important to let others know. Denise G.

Folgers coffee
by: Karen

Thank you for all these postings. My husband has suffered with arm seizures and brain fog episodesfor several years.

No one could find out what caused it until we read the book 'Wheat Belly'. We are both now gluten free and he has been doing wonderful until today.

He had a cup of Folgers coffee and three hours later he had a seizure. Very scary because he was driving the car. A Google search brought me to this website and coffee is now off the list of things to drink. Thank you all.

Gluten Free Coffees
by: Anonymous

No I don't. I've started having problems with all the pre-ground coffees! I think they're adding something to thin it since the cost went up. It really makes me feel awful, but I don't think it's gluten. I just bought a bag of coffee beans today and will try that. I miss my coffee. I have been able to drink DD's coffee that I've purchased at the store without problems. If anyone finds out what they're adding, please post here. Thanks

Folgers and Stomach Pain
by: Anonymous

It took me a few months to finally realize it was the folgers coffee that was causing me so much stomach pain and heartburn. I have drunk coffee all of my adult life with no problems; so I didn't even consider the folgers as the culprit. Now that I have switched to a new brand; I realize just how much discomfort it did cause. I am not sure if it is Gluten that is causing problems; But this product does cause stomach issues.

Not quite the best part of waking up...
by: Krista

After having a cup of Folgers last night from a local restaurant, I immediately starting having stomach cramps, and woke up this morning almost incapacitated. I am not full celiac, and am only classified as having an intolerance. This is by far, the worst reaction to gluten I've ever had... it makes me wonder exactly how much gluten is in there! Well, lesson learned, I suppose. I won't be ordering coffee from there again!

Folger's Columbian Medium-Dark Roast
by: Chrisi

Same here...a solid week of stomach upset, cramps and headache before I finally thought of the new container of coffee and called the company. Said they can't guarantee that it's not cross-contaminated with gluten. :(

I don't know. All the company would say is that they can't guarantee that when the coffee is processed it remains gluten free. I know the Smuckers company does do products that contain gluten, so this batch may have been contaminated.

Folgers
by: Marcia

Was this just an isolated case for the Folgers or is this an ongoing problem? We have used Folgers for more years than I can remember.
