suddenly diagnosed with celiac disease

by Cassanda

My name is Cassanda. I am a mother of three kids and I have recently been diagnosed with Celiac...not ever knowing anything about this, I went to the doctor because of vomiting and nauseous symptoms that have been going on for a while now.

I had thyroid surgery in June 08, my gallbladder removed in September 08 and the vomiting hasn’t stopped and now I am to the point I feel like I am falling apart and going down hill.

It scares me that I have three kids that need me and now I don’t even have the energy or life inside me. I feel acky and sick all the time now. I used to have a pretty good appetite but since I’ve been vomiting I maybe eat once a day. Nothing sounds good anymore.

I’m really confused and worried, but I have been seeing a doctor and doing this gluten free diet so I hope things get better for me cause I need it now more than ever.

Casandra, I recommend that you do a lot of reading. Finding recently published books and also magazines like "Living Without", "Gluten Free Living" and Gluten Intolerance Group Magazine are also very helpful. It takes a while to get use to the diet and you will make mistakes. You will fill so much better if you stick to the diet. I had my 3 children tested by enterolab, the stool test, all positive for gluten intolerance. The blood test only detects Celiac gluten intolerance, but it is better to detect before it gets that bad. Maybe my children will never have the health issue I did. My son had nose bleeds and now he doesn't, all had rashes and constipation issues which resolved. So checking the kids is a good idea, I have HLA DQ2 and DQ8 so each of my children inherited one gene from me and one is all it takes.
