Symptoms (Pain in abdomen my story)
by Lauren
(London)
In early October I suddenly got this terrible pain in my abdomen, I was in hospital for 4 nights as the surgeons thought it was my appendix, but it wasn't.
I got let out finally as they did not know what was causing the pain. Every day for about a month it would hurt and I would be in so much discomfort, I finally started to make a food diary and realised it gets worse after lunch.
Also I had started to become a lot more tired and found it hard to concentrate in school.
I told my mum and she took me to the doctor. I had blood tests done and it showed that I was gluten intolerant (coeliac disease).
I was so annoyed that the hospital did not pick this up!!
Being a vegetarian I thought it would be impossible to eat a sensible diet , but after a VERY hard week of just eating gluten free pasta, I realised there are a lot of foods I can still eat, but have to now eat fish.
I got very upset and still do as it is so hard being a vegetarian and gluten intolerant BUT it is possible and I am coping.
There is hope !!!
