weight gain and no weight loss even after I found out I need to change to gluten free food

To make a long story short..for the past 5 months I have had a sore left lower pain that I would wake me up because it hurt. I also had so much stomach gas it was embarrassing...almost every morning and it would last throughout the whole day. I just thought it would go away but it did not.

After 2 months I went to the doctor and had a CT scan on my stomach and intenstines. It came out with nothing...which I am glad for.

So afterwards we discussed that my symptoms do not match anything thing to put a name to...so I thought it had to be my food intake.

My diet consists of mainly high fiber, low fat and is pretty much a healthy diet. I had my gall bladder out 22 years ago and now I thought I am beginning to have side effects of not having it any longer.

Well, back to the doctor...he sugggested a gluten free diet. In three days...I noticed that almost all of my symptoms were gone!!!! WEIRD!! So I think we got something there but I do not lose any weight..I go up!! HELP!!!

How mUch Carb?
by: Leonardo

Hi Sue,

Now that you may be either gluten intolerant or even celiac, it looks like the nutrients you are ingesting are finally being absorbed properly.

In other words, when one has intolerances or allergies, what we eat is not properly assimilated by the body. So ironically, we may actually loose weight even if we increase the quantity of food ingested.

It is likely therefore that going gluten free is making your digestive apparatus function correctly again from the proper assimilation of nutrients.

You don't mention how much of your (new) diet is carbs. I have a feeling that you are intaking too many carbs for what you need which is probably why you are not loosing weight. Try and reduce your carb intake a little (not dramatically, i'm not an advocate of the Atkins diet, on the contrary) and increase
your physical activity and see if it has any results.
